Students Organizing United with Labor (SOUL)

Goal: SOUL works with local labor movements to press for living wages on campus, accountable labor practices from the university and democratic union representation for university employees. SOUL organizers also mobilize students in solidarity with broader city-wide and national labor struggles.

Current Projects: Supporting campus workers in getting a fair contract with a decent wage!

Past Projects:

  • Supporting campus unions in negotiations
  • Supporting Teamsters for a Democratic Union in reforming Local 743
  • Working with Student Labor Action Project in Chicago, United Students Against Sweatshops nationally
  • Kicking Coke off Campus!

Dream Projects (11/19/04):

  • Turning the UC Hospitals into a worker-run commune
  • Getting wage disclosure, long-term factory commitment into the U of C code of conduct
  • Reforming U of C purchasing to use sustainable products
  • Getting a living wage on campus
  • Help start a Chicago high school anti-sweatshop coalition
