Group: Sex Education Activists (SEA)
We're pursuing comprehensive sex education in Illinois public schools. We go to local high schools and encourage students to lobby from the inside.

Past Projects:
(04/18/05)
- Lobby Day for Comprehensive Sex Ed Bill
- Operation Sexucation Event
(11/19/04)
- Presentations on sex education in Illinois schools for College student groups
- Sex education presentations for High School Students that bring light to the lack of honest sex education in public schools
- Coordinated efforts with PP Chicago and ICAH to create a foundation of support for several comprehensive sex education bills for the IL state congress
(2005-2006 school year)
- The Chicago Public Schools Board of Education voted to implement comprehensive sexuality education in all Chicago public schools. This was a huge victory for these students who, once these programs are established, will have access to medically accurate information on birth control, family planning, safe sexual habits, and healthy relationships as opposed to the current curriculum of abstinence-only until marriage, which often stereotypes gender roles, provides inaccurate information about condoms and birth control, and imposes religiously motivated morals on these youth
Current Projects (10/09/06):
ONGOING
- This year, we will be joining the fight to establish comprehensive sexuality education curricula in public schools outside of Chicago, hopefully working with other college campuses throughout the state in this effort. We also will to continue to educate our peers on campus about awareness of their own sexuality, hoping to make it more of a "norm" issue. We will be holding study breaks, brown bag discussions, at least one trip to the state capitol, and visits to high schools encouraging them to pressure their own administrations for better, more comprehensive sex education.
Resources Needed (11/19/04) :
FOR CURRENT PROJECTS
- Feedback from other RSOs
- Manpower
- Transportation
- Better network with other college groups
